Results
The story In June and July of 2019, intense provoked fires in the Amazon destroyed millions of acres of vegetation and shocked and saddened the world. The town where we had been conducting our The Wu Project trainings, Concepcion, was caught in the middle of the affected area. La Chiquitania, an eco-region of the Amazon biome, is located in the lowlands on the eastern part of Bolivia near the border with Brazil. The intense fires in this area had severely damaged the largest tropical dry broadleaf forest in the world. This natural disaster had affected on a large scale the physical and emotional stability of the society in general, presenting a complex environment for our students to work with. Our students demonstrated the power of this community-oriented initiative. As a group, they decided to put the teachings to work. They obtained a safe space to work and set up a clinic. People living in the area were greatly affected by the dense smoke that covered the skies and the intense dryness. In the clinic, they provided acupuncture treatments and ongoing care to first responders, firefighters, and locals that were displaced by the fires. The local hospital respected their helpful therapies and send patients to the Wu Project clinic. The students dealt with serious medical conditions in a dangerous emergency situation. The actions of our students were commended by all citizens in the local area. They did extremely well, we could see that the objective of the trainings were fully accomplished.
