Results

This was the last phase of the certification program created by The Wu Project to train Barefoot Medicine Health Care Promoters. In this last phase the goal was to finish the teachings and to assess and evaluate the students that were going to receive the certificate of barefoot   Medicine Health Care Promoter. The training took place in the local headquarters of Caritas, a catholic charity. On arrival, we immediately met with the leaders of the group to analyze and dissect the work done by the students during the time since the last training. There had been changes in the group’s dynamics and unfortunately, a few of the students had drifted away from the work. Also, a traumatic event happened just at the time of our arrival that prevented dedicated students from attending this last training. We held the class, taught the last of the curriculum and held the supervised student clinic. In the clinic is where we can assess the level of proficiency of the students, it is where they put it all together. We were happy to see how all the students present demonstrated that they were ready. Three new people had heard of us and wanted to participate in the class. They could not join at that stage of the program, but we allowed them to stay and experience how The Wu Project works. By the end of the training, the 3 of them asked us to consider working with their community grass roots organizations and start other trainings. That is how we find new projects, through personal connections, through word of mouth built on our reputation. In this trip we also paused and looked at the direction that the organization was taking. In that regard, our dear friend and graduate Health Care Promoter,  Mayan Spiritual Guide Thomas Cholotio guided us in a highly meaningful Traditional Mayan ceremony that took place at a  the sacred and oldest Mayan ruins in Guatemala. During this ceremony, with his advice and direction we were able to look deep at where we were and find the strength to continue.
